A University of Georgia student is the first known victim of an attack in New Orleans after a drivercrashed into a crowdof New Year’s revelers on Bourbon Street, according to university president Jere W. Morehead.
The unidentified student was “critically injured” and is currently in the hospital.

Conservancy of Southwest Florida
An act of vandalism could have a lasting effect on a pair ofgopher tortoisesin southwest Florida.
The Conservancy of Southwest Florida in Naplesoriginally shared in a Nov. 22 Facebook postthat the animals arrived at the organization after an unknown individual spray-painted the pair, which could lead to future health issues for the animals.
The Conservancy also shared pictures of the tortoises. In one, a tortoise’s shell is painted half hot pink and half royal blue.

It was around 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 25, 2020, when a woman called 911 to report that her neighbor’s home was on fire.
The fire department quickly arrived at the modest ranch style home and encountered heavy smoke.
Firefighters combing through the wreckage soon found the body of nine-month pregnant Melissa Lamesch, 27, lying facedown on the kitchen floor.
Melissa’s death shocked the tiny town of Mt. Morris, Ill.

A USAID worker stationed overseas is suing PresidentDonald Trump’s administration over their shutdown of the humanitarian agency, which he says put his pregnant wife’s life at risk.
The U.S. foreign service officer detailed the perils that he and his wife faced following the “rushed, haphazard” shutdown of USAID amid her pregnancy complications,ABC Newsreported.
In an affidavit, which only identifies the USAID officer as Terry Doe, he chronicles the emotional, financial and logistical barriers that led his wife to a “life-threatening emergency” while stationed overseas.
