A couple had a surprise engagement after losing their house inthe Los Angeles fires.
They evacuated their home of one year on Jan. 7, the first day of the ongoing wildfires, according toABC7.
AGoFundMecreated for the couple explained that McShea was out of town when Raynor “needed to immediately evacuate with their pets in the middle of the night.” Therefore, she wasn’t able to “save nearly any of their belongings.

A woman in California has been arrested after 27 horses were found dead across multiple properties, authorities have confirmed.
On Wednesday, Jan. 22, deputies from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office along with Animal Services officers “executed a search warrant in Clements, Calif., in regards to an ongoing animal neglect investigation,” police said in aFacebookpost.

Two teen brothers are missing after one of their kayaks overturned during a duck hunting trip in Northern California.On Monday, Dec. 16, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in areleasethat authorities first responded to a missing persons alert on Saturday, Dec. 14.“Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue teams are back out at the Thermalito Afterbay today, looking for two duck hunters, ages 17 and 19, who went missing over the weekend,” the release stated.

Ortega was bitten repeatedly in the attack, according to police. A second person also sustained “serious bite injuries” while trying to intervene in the attack, per the outlets.
Both victims were transported to the hospital where Ortega later died, SDPD Officer Jose Perales confirmed to NBC 7 San Diego. The injuries of the second victim are thought to be non-life-threatening. A child who was with Ortega was found unharmed, per Fox 8 News.

A California woman was sentenced to 25 years to life for the fatal shooting of a teenager in October 2021.
Jessica Yesenia Quintanilla, 24, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of 19-year-old Leilani Marie Beauchamp inside a Fairfield, Calif. home in November 2024,KSBWreported.
Quintanilla’s attorney, William Welch, tells PEOPLE that the mother of two is “devastated" about the sentence in Solano County Superior Court and is “hoping that the appeal will ultimately wind up in her favor and that she can get a new trial.
