Abortion bans in the United States have led to a spike in infant deaths — particularly among already at-risk populations, a new study finds.
There was “higher than expected infant mortality in states after adoption of abortion bans,” the study published Thursday, Feb. 13, in theJournal of the American Medical Associationsays. The increase from 2012 to 2023 was 5.6%, and was higher among Black infants, a group that’salready at a higher riskof infant death.

Jurors couldn’t agree about the actions of a California judge who was on trial on accusations he murdered his wife, and a mistrial was declared on the morning of Monday, March 10.
The jurors deliberated for eight days and were split 11 to 1, with just one juror believing Jeffrey Ferguson was not guilty, according toABC7, theLos Angeles TimesandCBS News.

A Chicago man has been charged with killing six people at random within a 9-month period — when he was just a teenager.
At a Wednesdaypress conference, Police Superintendent Larry Snelling of the Chicago Police Department announced that Antonio Reyes, now 21, has been charged with five felony counts of first-degree murder and four felony counts of attempted first-degree murder in the rash of random murders in 2020.
