Two students were shot, one fatally, at Antioch High School in suburban Tennessee on Wednesday before the alleged gunman reportedly shot and killed themselves, according to local police.
A 17-year-old male student, armed with a handgun, opened fire in the school’s cafeteria at 11:09 a.m. and hit two students, with one of them, a 16-year-old female, succumbing to her injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Metro Nashville Police Department spokesperson Don Aaron told reporters on Wednesday.
MNPD identified the 16-year-old female as Josselin Corea Escalante onX.
The gunman, whom MNPD identified as Solomon Henderson, then turned his weapon on himself.
Antioch, Tenn., is located roughly 17 miles southeast of Nashville’s city center. Antioch High School has roughly 2,000 students, according to the Metro Nashville Public School District’swebsite.

The school districtannouncedon social media that Antioch High School was put on lockdown after the shots were fired inside the school.
