2 Teens Killed in New Year’s Day Car Crash, Multiple Others Seriously Injured: Police

Two teenagers have died and multiple others suffered serious injuries in a car crash in England on New Year’s Day.

On Wednesday, Jan. 1 at approximately 1:20 a.m. local time, a grey Volkswagen Golf was traveling along Staithes Road away from the East Riding of Yorkshire village of Preston when it collided with a black Vauxhall Grandland, Humberside Police said in anews release.

“Emergency services attended, however, two passengers of the Volkswagen Golf have since died,” police confirmed.

“A teenage boy, aged 16, was pronounced deceased at the scene, a man, aged 18, was conveyed to hospital for life-threatening injuries however died a short while later,” the release added.

Police stated that two other passengers — a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy — “suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital to receive medical treatment,” adding that the driver suffered minor injuries in the accident.

In a secondnews releaseon Thursday, Jan. 2, police confirmed that the teenage girl “remains in a critical but stable condition,” while the teenage boy “remains in a serious but stable condition.”

Officers also gave an update on the people traveling in the Vauxhall Grandland toward the village of Preston.

“A man, aged 62, was taken to hospital to receive treatment for injuries which are no longer life-threatening alongside the driver, a woman, aged 34, who sustained a serious injury to her arm. Two other passengers suffered minor injuries,” they said.

Police are urging anybody with any information to come forward.

“We would appeal for anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the collision, who has dashcam footage or witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to us, to contact us,” they said in the release.
