37-Year-Old Man Found Dead After Falling at Zion National Park

A hiker was found dead in Utah’s Zion National Park over the weekend.

The first call came in just after 7 a.m. that morning. Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue arrived at approximately 7:40 a.m. and determined the victim to be “beyond help.” Deputies arrived a short time later to confirm their findings.

No other information was given, and the person’s name was not provided. However,St. George Newsreported that the deceased was a 37-year-old male.

National Park Service Public Affairs Specialist Matthew Fink told the outlet efforts to recover the hiker’s body took place around 9:30 a.m.

“They were assisting with recovery only,” Fink said, referring to park staff. “So, they were waiting to go out there until Washington County (deputies) had the opportunity to get out there too.”

According to the outlet, though the incident is still under investigation, Sgt. Lucas Alfred believes the man’s death could have been an accident.

“We have no reason to believe any foul play was involved whatsoever,” Alfred said. “We believe he was alone at the time.”

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the exact cause of death,8 News Nowreported.
