Mar. 15, 2025

Four people were injured when a small, fixed-wing airplane crashed into a Texas intersection, authorities said.

Three people suffered non-life threatening injuries and one person was transported to a hospital outside of the small city, which is about 130 miles southwest of Houston, the police department said. The pilot, whose name was not immediately released, was conscious and evaluated at the scene.

“This is not something we see every day, but we are glad that people seem to be okay,” police chief Elaine Moya said.

The FAA and the NTSB are investigating the accident in which the plane was split in half upon impact.

Witnesses at the scene described the Piper PA-31 low on the horizon and unsteady as it lost altitude.

“To the left of me you start seeing on the wall a shadow of this plane,” Tony Poynor, a motorist, told theAssociated Press. “Then it passed over the top of my truck. And it’s still horizontal at this point, then about a quarter of a mile in front of me it starts to wobble.”

According to theVictoria Advocate, the plane had been flying in the vicinity for hours on Wednesday, departing from Victoria Regional Airport at 9:52 a.m., and it was seen circling the airport.

The intersection, which is near a local high school, remains closed as authorities investigate.
