Nearly a dozen people, including seven children, were taken to the hospital after a suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at a Maine day care on Wednesday, Feb. 12, officials said.
Police were first notified at 3:20 p.m. local time about the “potential carbon monoxide” at the day care, Building Blocks, in Kittery.
“There were 27 children and approximately 10 staff in the building at the time of the call,” Kittery police said in a statement. “Kittery Fire Department, Stewarts Ambulance, and Kittery Police Department responded. Additional mutual aid ambulance and fire assistance was also called to the scene to provide assistance.”
Other children were “being reunited with their parents in accordance with the daycare’s protocols,” police said.

The spokeswoman initially said the hospital received seven children and four adult patients in relation to the suspected poisoning.
As of 7 p.m., all patients were listed as being in fair condition — and less than an hour later, the spokeswoman said that only two patients, one child and one adult, remained in the hospital, although both were expected to be discharged later in the evening.
Building Blocks did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Further details were not available.
