TheSex/Lifecostars met in August 2020 while filming their Netflix drama series, and right away, there was a connection.

“I said, ‘Well, that’sa tall drink of water,’ ” Shahi told PEOPLE about her first impression of the actor. “I was really blown away with him. We met in the makeup trailer and we just got on instantly.”

Since then, the couple have opened up more about their real-life love story.

Calling her a “goddess,” Demos told PEOPLE that he loves “everything” about Shahi. “I’m her biggest fan,” he said. “I think she’s exceptional in all aspects of life.”

Demos and Shahi first crossed paths while filming the first season ofSex/Life. In the Netflix series, the pair star as ex-lovers who become entangled in a steamy love triangle years later.

Filming for the show began in August 2020, and the following month, Demos shared a photoon Instagramof the two hanging out on set. “Billie and Brad,” he wrote in the caption, referencing their characters’ names.

Speaking to PEOPLE in 2021, Shahi detailed what it was like working with Demos, sharing that there was an immediate connection between them.

The actress continued, calling it a “privilege” to work with him and praising his acting. “You’re only as good as your scene partner,” she said. “He’s amazing in the show.”

Ever since NetflixcanceledSex/Lifeafter two seasonsin April 2023, the pair have been on the hunt for their next joint project.

“Nothing has felt right so far,” Shahi toldThe Hollywood Reporterin February 2025. “I think we do work well with each other, and I would love to find something that he and I could do together.”

They confirmed their romance in 2021

On Dec. 31, 2020, Demos and Shahi gave the first glimpse of their relationship when they shared the same black-and-white photo of them on Instagram. In the shot, the two appear to be cozied up together in bed with their shirts pulled over their faces.

Demos captionedthe snap, “Rats NYE.” Shahi then seemingly responded with her caption, “Happy new year 🎈Xo The 🐀.”

Although neither explicitly mentioned their romance, Demos confirmed it 10 days later with a birthday post for Shahi.

Shahi says her values align with Demos'

During an interview on theNot Skinny But Not Fatpodcast, the actress clarified the timeline, explaining that she and Howeyfiled for divorcein May, three months before filming forSex/Lifebegan.

“We were together for a very long time,” she said of her 11-year marriage and18-year relationshipwith Howey. “That’s not a failure. That was a long time. But the last 10 years we really did struggle.”

The Rookiestar also shared that although her real-life romance with Demos seemed fast to the public, that wasn’t necessarily the case.

“It was over time, it was getting to know him as a person and seeing how aligned our values were,” she said.

As for his values, Shahi expressed admiration for how Demos treats women.

“I also really respected how he talked about his mom and how he talked about women,” she explained. “There was just so much that I started seeing over time that made me go, ‘Oh, you’re kind of everything I’ve ever wanted.’ And that’s when we started being together.”

They made their red carpet debut at the People’s Choice Awards

Demos wore a checkered suit, while Shahi donned a slinky metallic dress with a thigh-high slit and off-the-shoulder detailing. The actors were all smiles as they posed for the cameras with Shahi letting out a big laugh at one point as Demos kept his arm around her waist.

They keep their work and home lives separate

During an interview withHaute Living,Demos shared that, despite some emotionally intense scenes, he and Shahi are able to keep their work and home separate.

“It’s weirdly quite easy because that’s how we met,” he said. “What’s home is just us and our relationship, and going to work becomes about making sure we do the characters justice.”

He went on to explain that they’ve become good at keeping those lines divided but noted that, if anything, their off-screen romance only helps.

“When I do scenes with her, I love it because I’m such a fan of her as an actor and there are some scenes where we have to show chemistry, and it feels very effortless sometimes,” he said. “It makes it kind of easier.”

Shahi echoed that sentiment in a conversation onThe Jennifer Hudson Show.

“It makes my job so much easier because if it’s a love scene or it’s a fight scene or whatever it is, all I have to do is look at him, andthe words become real,” she told hostJennifer Hudson. “I don’t have to pretend, which is nice!”

Their relationship is “hotter” in real-life

During a cast interview withAccess Hollywood,Demos and Shahi were asked if their off-screen romance is “even hotter” than the relationship between theirSex/Lifecharacters.

“I think so,” Shahi replied, to which Demos agreed, “For sure.”

Still, she revealed that she isn’t attracted to his character.

Shahi added, “I would never be into him if he were Brad. I’m so thankful he’s actually the furthest thing from Brad in that sense, but I don’t know, I guess we’re pretty hot.”

They enjoy celebrating each other

Throughout their romance, Demos and Shahi haven’t been shy about their online PDA. They frequently share photos of each other on social media, giving fans a look into their life together.

In 2021, Shahi wrote a heartfelt birthday message to Demos.
