Adrienne Maloof Opens Up About the ‘Hardest Part’ of Empty Nesting: ‘It’s Sad’ (Exclusive)

Adrienne Maloofis an empty nester — and she’s not happy about it.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hillsalum, 63, opened up about living alone now that her three adult children are out of the house in an exclusive chat with PEOPLE ather holiday party at her estatein Beverly Hills, Calif.

The Dec. 21 party, cohosted with her famous friendNiecy Nash-Betts, benefitted Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

“My oldest is 21 [and Gavin is] in the industry. And then I have twins [Colin and Christian] that are 18. So yeah, I have three boys, and they’re … all like adults now. It’s sad,” she says. “I am empty nesting, and it’s really hard.”

Maloof — who shares her three sons with ex-husbandPaul Nassif— says that while her boys were home for Christmas, it’s “not enough for me,” adding, “It’s never enough for moms.”

As for the hardest part about this new phase of life? A big, quiet house.

“I like excitement. I like laughter,” she says. “My kids bringing their friends over always ready to feed them. I miss that. I really do.”

However, Maloof adds that empty nesting motivates her to think ahead.

”I’ve learned that I got to get on to the next chapter in my life,” she says. “And I’ve got some great projects coming up. So I’m blessed for that.”

The businesswoman also shares that she has learned to be resilient despite often working in male-dominated spaces.

“I grew up with all brothers, so I had to be tough. You have to be really tough. And then of course I had all boys. … I live in a man’s world,” she says with a laugh. “I credit my father because he always said, ‘Whatever your brothers can do, you’re going to do it better.’ So he really empowered me to be a strong businesswoman [and] a leader.”

While Maloof says she needs to keep details of her upcoming projects under wraps, she revealed to PEOPLE that one involves a docuseries about her family’s sports and Vegas-based businesses — noting that’s all her family used to be known for at one point in time.

She adds that business projects aside, her true passion is helping others.

“You can’t look at the glamour and the glitz of life because we’re all gonna be, you know, six feet under someday,” she says. “I mean, it is what it is. So what are you going to do for humanity? What are you gonna do to make the world a better place. Honest to God? That’s how I live my life.”
