Angela Bassett Admits There Were 'No Tears' When She Dropped Her Twins Bronwyn and Slater Off at College: 'Lots of Joy'

Angela Bassettwas only filled with joy when she dropped her twins off at college for the first time.

TheWhat’s Love Got to Do with Itactress, 66, appeared onTodayto talk about her role in the new six-part Netflix seriesZero Day,where she stars alongsideRobert De Niroas a president. Bassett also chatted about her illustrious acting career and her reaction to her twins Bronwyn and Slater heading off to college.

The mom of two revealed thatshe didn’t shed any tearswhen she dropped the fraternal twins off at school.

“You know what, no tears. Just lots of joy,” she shared. “You think you’re going to cry, and because you think you are going to do that, it doesn’t happen. I remember when I went to college and how wonderful it was, so, of course, I wanted that for them too, so no cries, no guilt.”

After seven years of in vitro fertilization, Bassett and her husbandCourtney B. Vance, 64,welcomed fraternal twinsBronwyn and Slater via a surrogate.

“I had a dream about seven years ago thatwe were going to have twins. I didn’t know how it was going to happen,” Vance toldOprahin 2007. Bassett added, “Just standing there together, holding each other with the realization that this is the moment that we’ve been working toward, praying for … [it’s a dream come true].”

“I hope that what will come out of that is that they see a mama, a woman, a Black woman achieving her dreams, having success,” she said of her kids. “They’ll see thathard work pays off. And they’ll be about that life for themselves.”

In January 2023, theBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreveractress opened up to PEOPLE about her two kids andwhat it would be like to see them follow in her Hollywood footsteps.

“They want to follow the success, but whether it be acting, I don’t get any clues to that right now,” Bassett said of their interests. “It’s a little music, a little sports. But whatever they want to do, I support them.”
