Angelina Jolie and Daughter Zahara Contrast in Black and White for Palm Springs Awards Night

On Friday, Jan. 3, the mother-daughter duo attended the Palm Springs International Film Awards at the Palm Springs Convention Center, where Jolie is an honoree.

ThePalm Springs International Film Festivalpreviouslyannounced in Novemberthat the actress, 49, would be honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her performance as thetitular opera singerMaria Callas in the Netflix biopicMaria. Jolie’s godmother, Jacqueline Bisset, also walked the red carpet ahead of presenting Jolie with her award.

“Mariapresents the iconic Angelina Jolie in the role of a lifetime as she embodies Maria Callas, the world-renowned opera legend. Jolie’s extraordinary portrayal captures the heart and complexity of an artist whose life was as captivating as her music,” said Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi in a statement when the announcement was made.

“In honor of her mesmerizing transformation into this groundbreaking yet tragic figure, we are thrilled to present Angelina Jolie with the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress,” his statement continued.

To commemorate the occasion, Jolie wore a black, floor-length halter gown made up of a silk material as she posed on the carpet with her 19-year-old daughter.

Jolie wore her blonde locks loose, with her new bangs swept to the side. The movie star completed the look with dark eyeshadow and a soft pink lip.

Jolie attended the event hours after beingspotted at the festival in an all-white blazer, pants, and nude heels.

The awards ceremony marks her first major event appearance since she andBrad Pitt, 61,reached a settlementin their divorce.In addition to Zahara, she and the actor share five other children:Maddox, 23Pax, 21,Shiloh, 18, and twinsKnoxandVivienne, 16.

A source close to Jolie told PEOPLE in July that she “seems very happy and content with her life.”

Mariais now streaming on Netflix. Jolie’s work in the film also earned her a nomination at the Golden Globe Awards, which will be held on Sunday, Jan. 5.
