The Academy Award winner, 35, shared a behind-the-scenes clip toInstagramand YouTube on Friday, Jan. 31, detailing some of the work that’s gone into her upcoming production of Sophocles’Elektraat London’s Duke Of York’s Theatre.
In the process, she also gave fans a glimpse of her dedication to her craft as she showed off her latest look ahead of the show: a short buzz cut.
In the makeup-free clip, theCaptain Marvelstar filmed herself from a theater dressing room, as she detailed the intricacies of the show’s forthcoming West End revival, with her hair significantly shorter than before.
In November 2024, Larsonshared an earlier transformationpic to Instagram, after she chopped off her signature long hair and opted for a pixie cut with an apparent darker brunette hue. That style in particular followed her being photographed in New York City just a month earlier with her signature wavy blonde locks intact.
Alongside the latest theater footage, shared with both the Theatre Royal Brighton and the Duke of York’s Theatre, Larson wrote that makingElektrahas been “the most special and energizing time.”
Elektrahad a pre-run of shows at the Theatre Royal from Jan. 13-18 before heading to the Duke of York’s Theatre — where the production will commence on Feb. 5, following previews starting Jan. 24. As previously reported,Elektra’s run will continue in London until April 12.
“Made this video to give a taste of what the last few months have been for me as we prepare for our West End debut,” Larson wrote on Instagram. “I had never been in rigorous rehearsal process, and the play we created is wholly unique. Working with this incredible team of cast and creatives has changed my life! We built this show together and love performing it. We are a lucky bunch!”
Larson also explained what it was like to “build the show from the ground up,” calling the process “unique.”

Elsewhere in her new five-minute behind-the-scenes footage, Larson detailed how the show’s music “sets it apart” and what the team’s “minimal” approach toElektrameant for its production. “Sometimes when something is stripped back it seems like there’s less thought, but actually it means that there has to be a lot more thought put into it,” she said. “At least that’s the case for us and this show.”
She also describedElektraas a show about “challenging our perceptions.“Joining Larsonfor the show areStockard Channing, Marième Diouf, Greg Hicks and Patrick Vaill.
“Also just seeing a woman on stage refusing to step away from her selfhood, refusing to let go of her pain until its ready to let go of her, speaking loudly, being bold, being angry, shaving her head, spitting,” Larson said.
“It’s been very empowering to explore what it means to stand on a stage and say to a group of 650 people every night, ‘Listen to me, what I have to say is worth hearing, even if it makes you uncomfortable.'”
