Cam Newton Reveals He Wants to Have Baby No. 9: 'Did I Tell You I Want More?' (Exclusive)

Cam Newtonis open to the possibility of growing his family.

“Did I tell you I want more?” Newton tells PEOPLE when asked about his kids. He also shares that he doesn’t know when he’ll feel like his family is complete.

“I don’t know, wherever much that God gives me," he says when asked how many more kids he’d want. “But jokingly, and not jokingly, they really give me my purpose and there’s so many different things that I look at to say, they’re my refuge. They’re my peace. They’re my encouragement.”

“There’s times where, even I’m here and they’re still at home. Those type of things affect me but it also gives me more reason to say I’m doing this because of that situation,” Newton adds.

The former professional athlete recently appeared on the third season ofSpecial Forcesand was open on the show abouthis complicated relationship with some of his kids. During this past week’s episode, Newton shared that he’s still dealing with some of his past “mistakes.”

“My dark side in my life was like I was in a long-term relationship and I had a child outside my relationship,” Newton shared. “We had just moved into a house and everything was kind of perfect from the outside in, you know?”

“And my relationship with my oldest daughter has suffered. All she kept asking was, ‘Yo, why?’ " he recalled.

In a confessional, Newton added that he feels like he’s still “making mistakes.”

“Family, they give me purpose, but I made my mistakes,” he said. “Still making mistakes.”

“I’m still dealing with that resentment. So if I can heal that, then that’s the start,” he continued, adding in a confessional, “My daughter. We have our disconnects, but I just want my children to know that their dad cares, like I care.”

Talking to his fellow recruits, Newton continued to speak about the “vulnerableness” of having a child outside of his relationship.

“I know I hurt somebody, but I didn’t want what I created to be a secret either. But all the while, too, my relationship with my oldest daughter suffered, and is suffering from that,” he said. “Daddy cheated on my mommy. I think it’s important for me to be accountable.”
