Cameron Mathison wants his followers to be mindful when discussing people who have lost their homes in the recent Los Angeles wildfires.

Mathison gave “some gentle words to consider” in a clip he recorded from a car he was sitting in.

“Maybe if you’re sharing or commenting about somebody that’s lost their home in these fires, and everything they own — everybody’s got a very different relationship with their house,” he said.

Noting that no two situations are alike, the Lifetime movie star added, “Some people might flip houses and spend a couple years there and then move on,” causing them to have “not a lot of attachment.”

“Some people might just generally move around a lot. Some people may have moved to L..A., but have all their childhood things back home with their parents. And then some people might have been in that house for a long time and it really represents a lifetime of memories, and it’s where their kids were raised and everything they owned — everything they owned — was in it.”

Mathison reminded his followers that people whose homes burned may have had things “from their childhood, to their kids’ childhood, and it represents a physical object that is like love.”

He asked that moving forward, people “keep that in mind” when they say things like, “It’s just a house,” or “It’s just stuff and you can replace that.”

On Jan. 8, just one day after the fires began in the Pacific Palisades, Mathison shared a video announcing he lost his house.

“We are safe. But this is what’s left of our beautiful home. Our home where our kids were raised and where they wanted to raise their own someday,” he captioned anInstagram postof him surveying the damage.

As he toured what was left of the property, flames still burned.
