PEOPLE caught up with Kung Minkoff, 41, and her husbandRob Minkoffat Unforgettable: The 22nd Annual Asian American Awards at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, Dec. 14, where they shared an update on a major project.

“Rob’s been working on a musical based on an old Chinese book and film,Farewell My Concubine,“Crystal told PEOPLE exclusively.

The 1994 big screen version ofFarewell My Concubine, adapted from the 1985 novel of the same name, starred the late Leslie Chung, Gong Li and Zhang Fengyi. The film, a love triangle set against Chinese opera, earned Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography Oscar nominations in 1994.

When asked if his wife would be performing in the musical, Rob, 62, replied, “I hope so. I might have to twist her arm.”

“You know what, if you told me five years ago that I would’ve been a housewife, I would’ve bet everything on it that I wouldn’t. So you never know!” Crystal added.

Crystal wouldn’t be the firstReal Housewivesstar to hit the stage. Erika Jayne starred as Roxie Hart inChicagobeforeCOVID shut down the production. The"Xxpensive"singer recently announced she is returning to Broadway in January toreprise her role for a 3-week run.

Rob’s musical version ofFarewell My Concubinemay be years away from Broadway, but he certainly has the credentials — he co-directed the Oscar-winning animated filmThe Lion King, twoStuart Littlefilms and 2003’sThe Haunted MansionstarringEddie Murphy.

Meanwhile, Crystal is staying busy with her coconut water line and herHumble Bragpodcastwith fellowReal HousewivesalumCynthia Bailey.

The Minkoffs tell PEOPLE they will spend the holidays skiing with their two kids, son Max and daughter Zoe.

“We’re going to be low-key,” Crystal said of the holidays. “It’s been a lot so we need a little downtime.”
