Danny DeVito Is the Most Proud Grandpa Ever in New Interview: ‘I Wish It for Everybody’

Danny DeVitois overjoyed to be a grandfather and teach his kids lessons about parenthood.

His oldest daughter,Lucy Chet DeVito, 41,welcomed a son named Carminewith her fiancé in July 2024.

Rhea Perlman, DeVito’sformer partnerwhomhe has never officially divorced, revealed on an episode ofWiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfusin June 2023 that their second daughter,Grace “Gracie” Fan DeVito, 39,had welcomed a daughternamedSinclair Lucille DeVito. Perlman, 76, and DeVito are also parents to Jacob “Jake” Daniel DeVito, 37.

“There’s that saying, a watched pot never boils. So I apply that to my kids. I look at them all the time, because I don’t want them to boil. I want them to take their time and grow,” he continued.

The actor offers the same words of advice to his daughters.

“I tell my kids that, too. Don’t miss a thing. Don’t look away. Because when you look back, that kid’s gonna be hula hooping,” he said.

The dad of three, who turned 80 in November 2024, said that his growing family is one of his biggest motivators.

“No matter what happens in your life, the main thing is that you’ve got family and friends,” he said. “That’s all we have, basically: reliable people in our lives who we can talk to and we can open up to. I’m very fortunate. Blessing showered down on me, and I wish it for everybody.”

DeVito was recently seen on the big screen inBeetlejuice BeetlejuiceandA Sudden Case of Christmas. He still stars onIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiaand recently guest-starred in a crossover episode with ABC’sAbbott Elementary, which aired on Jan. 8.
