The movie marked the second time Moore and Lowe appeared onscreen together after starring in the 1985 classicSt. Elmo’s Fire.Moore played party girl Jules, and Lowe portrayed the charismatic but troubled Billy. Their time together also sparked a real-life romance. Lowe recently revealed that he and Moore briefly dated early in their careers.

“I mean, Demi and I briefly — I’m not telling tales out of school — we briefly had a thing,” he said while appearing onLive! with Kelly and Markin October, adding, “Look, anytime you put young 20-something men and women together, hookups are inevitable."

Lowe also was sure to clarify that his short romance with Moore came before her engagement to Estevez. (The couplebroke off their engagementin 1986.)

In the same interview, Lowe shared that he considersAbout Last Nightto be his best work from early in his career, noting, “Of all the stuff I did in the ’80s, if I had to pick one, it would for sure beAbout Last Night."

For her part, Moore has reflected on earlier times in her career from a different perspective, recently speaking out on the punishing beauty standards women in Hollywood faced in the ‘80s and ‘90s. In an interview withThe Guardian, published in September, the actress said that women were not considered attractive unless they were thin, and shared that she went to extremes to maintain a specific body type.

“What I did to myself. What I made it mean about me. Really looking at that violence, how violent we can be towards ourselves, how just brutal," she told the outlet.

Her latest project, the body horror filmThe Substance, explores these themes and takes them to the extreme. Moore plays an aging Hollywood actress who will go to any lengths to feel relevant in an ageist and sexist culture. Critics have hailed her performance in the film as one of the best of her career.
