Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen Get Engaged in Rose-Filled Proposal: 'They’ve Been Head Over Heels from the Start'

On Friday, Nov. 29, theSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Versestar, 27, and the Buffalo Bills quarterback, 28, announced that they’ll be tying the knot after getting engaged last week.

“Congrats brother!!!” actorChad Michael Murray, who grew up in the Buffalo area, commented under the post.

The Bills organization also congratulated its star QB on his engagement, with the team’s official Instagram account commenting, “LET’S GOOOOOO!! ❤️💙”

“❤️💙❤️💙 Congratulations to@JoshAllenQBand@HaileeSteinfeldon their engagement,” the Bills wrote on X (formerly Twitter) alongside the same image.

A source close to the couple tells PEOPLE that their families are excited about the engagement news. “They’ve been head over heels from the start,” the source says. “Their families are thrilled.”

Steinfeld and Allen were first linked in May 2023 shortly after rumors circulated that the NFL star had called it quits with then-girlfriendBrittany Williams. A source laterconfirmed their relationship to PEOPLEin May 2023, sharing at the time that the new couple was “having fun.”

In August 2023, Allen appeared on thePardon My Takepodcast, where he obliquely talked about some of the challenges the couple was facing after their relationship went public. During theconversation, he wasasked if he had seen headlinesabout him “making out with his girlfriend.”

“The fact that anybody cares about that still blows my mind,” Allen responded, adding that some photographers had been invasive in trying to take photos of the pair. He recalled a specific instance where he spotted a photographer “on a boat” trying to snap a shot of him and Steinfeld.

Allen said it was a “gross feeling” and created a feeling of “insecurity” for the couple.

In October 2023, the couple made theirfirst public appearancetogether at an NHL game at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo. At the game, Steinfeld and Allen weresnapped in the standsin what appeared to be a suiteas they watchedthe season opener.

That same month, Steinfeld was also spottedspending some time with Allen’s mother, as the pair picked up some items at theLeveled Up Buffaloshop in East Aurora, N.Y.

As she explained, they bought each other the same cooking knife, in a “different colorway,” since they “love” to cook together.

“After we exchanged our knives lol, he told me there’s an old wive’s tale that if you gift your significant other a knife you have to pay for it, otherwise it signifies the severing of a relationship,” she wrote. “So we exchanged quarters so we didn’t have that bad omen.”

The “Most Girls” singer added, “Anyway, oh my God, I love this knife! I don’t know much about a chef’s knife, but it is just so nice and makes me feel official.”
