Javiera Ortiz, 34, who was due to marry in two weeks suffered fatal injuries to her head and arms after the fishing vessel ran over her near the shoreline at Rinconada Beach in Tauca, Cobquecura.

Surfer and influencer Javiera Ortiz was killed at age 34 in a speedboat accident that occurred on the coast of Chile on Feb. 21.

24 Horas also noted that the boat’s driver was arrested after the crash, but was later released.

The community’s local surfing hub, Club de Surf Rinconada de Taucú,released a statement about Ortiz’s deathon Instagram on Feb. 22. Translated to English, the post reads, “With deep sorrow, we announce that a surfer has died in an accident on Rinconada de Taucü beach, Cobequecura today. The surfing community and locals are mourning this tragic loss.”

It continued to note that authorities “are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident to determine responsibility and prevent future incidents.”

The Chilean surf club went on to urge anyone participating in aquatic activities to take extreme care and respect safety standards.

“In this moment of pain, we send our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased surfer. May they find comfort and strength to overcome this difficult situation,” the English translation reads.

In addition to her athletic pursuits in the water, Ortiz had gained a following with her photography portfolio and knitting skills. Per her Instagram profile, she offered crochet patterns and online classes in the craft.

In a post from Feb. 5, Ortiz mentioned herupcoming wedding day, showcasing a free pattern for knitting spirals.

“I always dreamed of having a space with lots of wind spirals for my wedding day, and that’s how many of my followers are helping me make it happen,” the late bride-to-be wrotealongside her video.
