Isla Fisher Calls Split from Sacha Baron Cohen ‘the Most Difficult Thing That I’ve Been Through’

In an interview withThe Sunday Timespublished on Feb. 8, the actress, who shares three children with the British comedian, describes ending her marriage as “the most difficult thing I’ve been through.”

“I’ve learned so much about myself in the process,” Fisher, 49, said, adding, “I never imagined my family being separated, but we are committed and loving parents.”

Fisher also said that, despite the change in their relationship status, she and Cohen, 53, are dedicated to puttingtheir kidsfirst.

“Kids are the most important thing, and you want them to really feel safe and loved. We are building a new, healthy version of what our family looks like and putting as much care and love into it as possible,” she told the outlet.

Elsewhere in the interview, theWedding Crashersactress shared that she credits her strong female friendships for getting her through the most challenging moments of the breakup — and revealed that she now has a better sense of who she is outside of a romantic partnership.

“The women in my life have held me … the female relationships that I cultivated in our business, those women have been there for me. I’m actually going to get emotional,” Fisher said.

She added: “I’m sitting here today because of them. I’ve learned so much about the power of female friendship and I’ve just learned that I do have resilience, who I am outside of a partnership, and what my values are. It’s been this expansive learning curve.”

The Australian-born Fisher initially met Cohen in 2001 at a party in Sydney.

While speaking toThe New York Timesin October 2020, Cohen said that he “knew instantly” he had feelings for his future spouse. “She was hilarious. We were at a very pretentious party, and me and her bonded over taking the mick out of the other people in the party,” he recalled.

The pair got engaged in 2004 after three years of dating, andmarried in 2010. Theyannounced their spliton April 5, 2024, in a joint statement shared on their Instagram Stories.

“After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down. In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage,” they wrote, pairing the news with a photo of themselves in matching tennis outfits.

Looking ahead, Fisher — who recently finished filmingNow You See Me 3and is set to appear inBridget Jones: Mad About the Boy(out on Feb. 14) — shared that she is ready to take on new challenges.

“I’m trying to readdress my ambition and refocus and get reinspired for my career,” she toldThe Sunday Times.

The star also will begin filming the female-led comedySpa WeekendwithAnna FarisandLeslie Mann.

“I cannot wait,” Fisher said of the upcoming project.
