In his complaint, Jay-Z accuses Buzbee of defamation and “naked extortion.”
Jay-Z, who filed the complaint under his given name, Shawn Carter, claims that Buzbee sent him allegations of false sexual abuse against him along with written demands.
The amended complaint, which was filed on Dec. 20, alleges that the defendants — Buzbee and his eponymous law firm — gave Jay-Z a two-week window to commit to “confidential mediation.”
The complaint also accuses Buzbee of defaming Jay-Z, claiming the high-profile attorney has made multiple false statements over the past several months.
“Beginning in October 2024, Buzbee spoke on any news platform that would have him, threatening that his firm has ‘a long list of names’ of people in the entertainment industry who he accused of ‘terrible conduct,’ and who ‘should be prosecuted and put underneath [sic] the jail,’” the complaint states. “And Buzbee then gleefully announced to the world that one name on his ‘long list’ was Mr. Carter, claiming that he had engaged in criminal sexual assault.”
Jay-Z has denied the allegations, posting a lengthy statement on his X account that took aim at Buzbee.

Combs, who is currently behind bars as he prepares for a trial on federal sex crime charges, has also denied the allegations after being named in several lawsuits.
A spokesperson for Buzbee did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Buzbee previously announced that he was representing hundreds of clients accusing Combs of sexual abuse, including an accuserwho alleges that he was sexually abused when he was 9 years old while auditioning at a studio in New York City.
