Josh Allen Details His Proposal to Hailee Steinfeld and Telling Her 'I Can't Wait to Start a Family with You'

Josh Allenis opening up about how he felt the moment heproposedto his now-fiancée,Hailee Steinfeld.

On Friday, Dec. 6, the Buffalo Bills quarterback, 28, wrote about the nerve-wracking moments leading up tothe proposaljust two weeks ago for a Q&A session in Steinfeld’sBeau Societynewsletter.

“The funniest thing was that we woke up and were getting ready for brunch and you jumped on the bed and said, ‘Can we get married already?!? What are you waiting for??!'” Allen recalled in the newsletter, perE! News.

“I replied, ‘Just give me a little more time.’ Little did you know I was about to propose to you…” he added.

According to Allen, the day was made especially scary because he was sure theHawkeyeactress, 27, was going to figure out what he was up to.

“I think I was most nervous about you finding out about the proposal,” he wrote. “It was hard to keep secrets from you and have other people in your life keep secrets from you. Multiple times throughout the day, a song would come on and I would tear up thinking about how special our day was going to be.”

“I said I couldn’t wait any longer,” he revealed. “I said I can’t wait to start a family with you. I said your full name, and I asked you very nicely. I said please.”

“I didn’t blow it nor did anyone else,” the NFL star added. “You were extremely surprised, you said yes, and that was all that mattered to me.

Steinfeld also chimed in to add that the couple wasn’t quite ready to reveal their plans for the big day yet.

“All the happy tears have just barely dried,” she added. “Whenever we tell the story, look back at photos, or even say ‘We’re engaged’ or ‘We’re getting married’ I start crying.”

TheSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Versestar and quarterback first announced their engagement on Friday, Nov. 29, when theyshared a romantic photo on Instagramtogether of Allen down on one knee in front of Steinfeld.

Steinfeld and Allen were first linked in May 2023, and a sourceconfirmed their relationship to PEOPLEin May 2023, sharing at the time that the new couple was “having fun.”

A source close to the couple told PEOPLE soon after the proposal that their families were excited about the engagement news.

“They’ve been head over heels from the start,” the source says. “Their families are thrilled.”
