Katey Sagalhas always been open and honest with her children.
During an appearance on theMeSsypodcast, thePitch Perfect 2actress, 71, spoke to hostsChristina Applegate, 53, andJamie-Lynn Sigler, 43, about the level of honesty that she has withher three children, Esmé, 18,Jackson, 29, and Sarah, 30.
She revealed that her son Jackson, who currently stars on Hulu’s hit seriesTell Me Lies, even came to her when he was “ready” to lose his virginity.
“I always talked openly about sex and drugs with my kids, always,” she said. “I gave them information on an as needed basis.”
“When my older two were in high school, [and] like sex was coming into the story much younger. I remember telling them both, like, ‘Look, when you’re old enough and you wanna have sex, you need to tell me because we need to talk about getting protection. We need to talk about all this stuff,’ " she continued. “And, I’ll never forget when Jackson was 16 years old, he comes to me, like, on the day, ‘I’m ready, mom.'”

TheMarried… with Childrenalumwelcomed her older kids, Sarah and Jackson, in 1994 and 1996, with her ex-husband, drummer Jack White, whodied in July 2024. In 2007, Sagal and her current husband, Kurt Sutter, welcomed their daughter, Esmé.
The proud mom once described motherhood as “the most self-sacrificing thing” that she has ever done.

Now adults, Sagal’s older kids have followed in her acting footsteps. Sarah landed roles onNCISandGrey’s Anatomy, while Jackson starred alongside his mom in the 2022 seriesTell Me Lies.
“It’s a huge relief when your kids say, ‘I want to do what you do,’ and there’s natural talent there,” Sagal toldThe Hollywood Reporterin 2014. “The greatest thrill of my life has been making a living as an artist, and I think Sarah — and all my kids — have gotten a very realistic view. It’s very hard work, but there’s nothing I can do to stop her. She has talent in spades.”
