Katie Holmes Is Staying Warm in Style with Long Coats — Shop Similar Styles from $59

Most people rely on the calendar or a weather app to plan their outfits. New Yorkers can just look at whatKatie Holmeshas been wearing and dress accordingly.

Herpreppy collared sweatersignaled the switch to long sleeves in late September and herroomy cardigankicked off sweater weather in October. Now, despite winter not starting until December 21, the actress is showing us it’s time to pull out our full-length coats. Holmes has been spotted twice recently wearing long black coats in the Big Apple, putting the final touch on her cold-weather street style.

We looked around for dressy winter outerwear like hers that can keep you warm without being too puffy — and prices start at $59.

One of the coats Holmes was spotted wearing looks to have a teddy texture — which is practically impossible not to love. That fluffy fabric, especially in black like she wore, really boosts the coat’s cozy factor while keeping it appropriate for more formal looks at work or on special nights out. TheDawson’s Creekstar wore hers with black winter boots and a cream-colored handbag, making use of its warm pockets.

This faux-shearling coat from Gap has slim lines and a single row of buttons, similar to what Holmes wore, but in all-black. It also ditches the hood for fluffy, wide notch lapels, and it has a belt tie — both of which dress it up even more.

Nordstrom has this double-breasted coat that looks very similar to the second one we saw on Holmes, which she wore before going to work in a mid-day performance ofOur Town. Flying under the radar in Midtown Manhattan, she wore hers with a dad hat, big sunglasses, and a pair of white sneakers.

Though hers was a pretty casual look, this is the kind of winter coat you can easily dress up with ablack turtleneckand a pencil skirt or wide-leg trousers. It’s got a long slit up the back, peaked lapels, and a removable belt. It’s made with a wool blend for warmth but is lined on the inside for extra comfort.
