Katie Holmes Keeps Bundling Up in Plaid Shackets — and Now We're Convinced We Need One This Winter, Too

You should have seen me this morning when I realized this one thing aboutKatie Holmes. Spoiler alert: It involves shackets.

After spotting new photos of theDawson’s Creekactress taken over the weekend, I went spiraling down a shacket-filled rabbit hole. I was trying to figure out whether her plaid topper was either the exact oneshe wore a few months ago, or a strikingly similar, snuggly version. I didn’t come to a conclusion, but I did realize that, at any rate, she really stans thewinter-ready style.

And what’s not to like? When paired with a pullover like hers, or another warm layer, it’s still comfortable to wear in the cold. Plus, I’m always oscillating between feeling too hot and cold, so I’m already daydreaming about how nice it will feel to carry this lightweight layer as opposed to lugging around a thick, padded puffer.

Lumberjack-meets-luxury is the phrase that comes to mind when looking at this Gap shacket. The way the colors are blended and woven together makes it look like it’s an expensive tweed jacket when really, it’s just $37 now. Made to have a roomier fit, this really rises to the occasion when paired with a second or third layer.

It seems like for celebrities,baggy jeansare taking precedence over constrictive styles, but this pair doesn’t overdo the trend. This is a non-stretch style, per the brand, which means they should retain some of their shape over time. In other words, they won’t turn into free-flowing palazzo pants. The size range is also incredibly inclusive, as they come in sizes 00 to 30, or XXS to 4X, respectively, with tall and petite inseams available, too.

When Holmes last wore the plaid shacket, she fastened it up and wore a black scarf on top. But because it was open this time, we saw what looked like a taupe pullover sweater, similar to this one, as her base layer. One shopper described it as a “blanket in a sweater,” while another said it’s “soft and warm.” A few did note that it sheds a bit though, so consider afabric shaverto keep it in check.

The biggest difference between this time and the last time we saw Holmes in a shacket was that Holmes recently laced up in sneakers rather than combat boots.
