Eiza Gonzálezdoes not hold back when it comes to fashion.
Whether she’s commanding the red carpet in a skin-baring gown or making her mark in high-fashion clothes while front row at Fashion Week, the 35-year-old actress has an unapologetic approach to style.
“You should always follow your gut and what you like and what you want to do,” González tellsPeople Style Watch. “Clothes are an extension of who you are and your identity and your personality, and you should feel comfortable dressing however you want to dress and feel empowered in your choices. There’s no right or wrong.”
So who better than González — aDavid Yurman global ambassadorwhose new space thrillerAshcomes out on March 21 — to walk us through her last fashion risk, how she handles red carpets jitters and more.

What was my last outfit risk? Wearing a really golden dress to the Golden Globes was sort of a high risk. Everyone’s like, “Wow, that’s slightly on the nose.” It was quite sparkly. It was a pretty sunny day in L.A. and [when] the light hit me, I was like a disco ball. Everyone stopped me to say that the [Gucci] dress was gorgeous, so it was a good worthwhile risk.

I just donated half of my closet to everyone that has been suffering through the [Los Angles] fires. I thought it was the perfect time to give back. It felt great. Things that I had held sentimental value had a bigger meaning now that I’ve given them to people that really need it.
Panic…no, when you’re about to go onto a red carpet, you kind of black out. It’s a very strange feeling, and it doesn’t change. Your brain just goes into fight-or-flight. Those seconds before jumping out of the car are always sort of like deep breath, and you just jump into the madness of it all and try to remember everything you have to do, everything you have to say.
Before I am about to film, I always try to remember to have fun, enjoy the moment, remind myself to be in the moment. That’s the last thing I think of right before action.

The Met Gala. It’s the shoes and weight of dresses that make it really hard to tolerate, but I always try to power through.

I hate trying things on when I shop, so sometimes I just buy hoping for the best. I definitely miscalculated the size of my bum lately (probably needed two sizes up).

I’m a roll-out-of-bed, roll-into-bed kind of girl, but I’ve become very responsible lately with my skin. I love that process of winding down.
I just did this thing in the UK calledYou Me Bum Bum Train. I can’t really say what it is [perTime Out, participants have to sign a non-disclosure agreement], but it’s incredible. It’s a secret basically and you’ve got to get invited [attendees have to enter a ballot]. I kept hearing people talk about it and so a good friend of ours invited 70 friends from all around the world to London and come celebrate and go toYou Me Bum Bum Train. It was the most amazing experience I’ve had in a very, very long time. Then we all gathered afterwards and had drinks, and it was just the perfect winter day in London. It was just awesome.
