Lauren Sánchezshared a video of her first call withBlue Origin’s all-female space crew.Last month, it was announced that Sánchez, 55, and five other women — including fellow award-winning journalistGayle Kingand singerKaty Perry— will visit space on a Blue Origin rocket this spring.The crew — which also includes former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen and film producer Kerianne Flynn — expressed excitement for the trip, as seen in clips shared in anInstagram postSánchez shared on Friday, March 7.“I just kind of want everyone to take a deep breath and soak this all in for a second,” Sánchez said at the beginning of the call. “Today, you guys, we’re a crew!”“Wow, I just got chills!” said Nguyen, 33, in response, though King, 70, expressed some apprehension.“Is anyone else nervous? This is just the beginning.”The company previously credited Sánchez, who is the fiancée of Blue Origin founderJeff Bezos, for bringing the special mission together.“[Sánchez] is honored to lead a team of explorers on a mission that will challenge their perspectives of Earth, empower them to share their own stories, and create lasting impact that will inspire generations to come,” Blue Origin said in apress releaseannouncing the mission last month.This upcoming mission will be the 11th human flight for the New Shepard program.
