Laverne Cox Leaves E!’s Red Carpet Coverage After 3 Years: ‘I’m So Excited to Keep Growing’

Laverne Coxis bidding adieu to E!’s red carpet coverage.

Cox, 52, announced on Thursday, Jan. 2, that after three years with the channel, she is departing and will now star in a new comedy series,Clean Slate.

“With an incredible amount of gratitude I’ve decided not to return as host of #LiveFromE’s red carpet coverage. I’m so incredibly proud of the work we did over my three year tenure," the Daytime Emmy winner wrote onInstagram.

“These moments are a reminder to me of what an incredible privilege it has been to talk to some of the world’s greatest artists about their work, navigating the pressures of success, etc.,” Cox wrote.

“I’m so excited to keep growing, evolving and exploring great opportunities as an actress, artist, host and speaker. I hope you’ll all continue to go with me on my evolving journey,” Cox added before informing her followers to watch her new comedy series,Clean Slate.

Cox will not be covering the carpet for the82nd Golden Globe Awardson Sunday, Jan. 6. Instead,Access Hollywood’s Zuri Hall and comedian Heather McMahan will hostLive from E!: Golden Globes,which begins at 6 p.m. ET.

Cox’s Instagram post included a video montage of clips of her coverage on the carpet, highlighting the “Legends, Looks and Love” from her tenure. She featured moments from the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and more award shows withTracee Ellis Ross,Andrew Garfield,Martin Short,Steve Martin,Cynthia Erivo,Anne Hathaway,Dua Lipa,Kylie Minogue,Colman Domingo,Quinta Brunson,Jessica Chastain,Lady Gaga,Jennifer AnistonandKate McKinnon.

In the clip, Mau, 32, first stepped up to speak with Cox, who became emotional as the two hugged.  “I’m supposed to keep it together, I’m the host,” Cox said, fanning her face. “I’m so proud of you.”

While fans won’t be able to catch Cox on the red carpet, her new series premieres on Thursday, Feb. 6.

“[Clean Slate] follows Harry (George Wallace), an old-school car wash owner in Alabama who has a lot of soul searching to do when the child he once called ‘son’ returns after 17 years as a proud trans woman named Desiree (Cox),” per the series' synopsis. “Her homecoming brings together a hilarious cast of friends, coworkers, and love interests as Desiree and Harry try to get it right the second time around.”
