Michelle Williams Jokes Her Latest Fan Letter Is 'Absolutely Phenomenal' — Because It's Meant for the Actress

Michelle Williamsis used to being mistaken for, well,Michelle Williams.

Earlier this week, the Destiny’s Child singer and actress, 45, who is starringon Broadway inDeath Becomes Her, took a moment from her busy schedule to open letters from her fans — but one in particular soon took a turn.

Inan Instagram videoshared on Tuesday, March 11, the “Cater 2 U” singer shared a “dressing room update,” proudly revealing she’s done “probably 116 shows” in her current production.

“Let me get to the point,” she said. “I got a new letter!”

Shifting things around as she gathered the contents of her mail, Williams said the letter was from a fan in Germany and called it “absolutely phenomenal.”

She admitted that when receiving things from fans, she often wonders “What’s gonna take the cake?” or “What can happen?”

“Dear Michelle Williams, I hope this letter finds you in great spirits. My name is Phillip and I have been an avid fan of your incredible performances in both film and theater," the “Bootylicious” singer read.

The fan sent several photos of the actress, noting that her autograph would mean “so much” to him and his daughter.

“Furthermore, I wish you all the best and much success with your current production ofDeath Becomes Herat the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre,” Phillip wrote, confusing the Golden Globe award-winning actress for the Grammy winner.

“I am sure that your captivating performance will leave a lasting impression on the audience,” the fan wrote, wishing her continued success in her career.

Williams thanked Phillips as she held up three photos of theDawson’s Creekalum.

“Absolutely brilliant,” the “Survivor” singer said, not letting the mixup change her mood.

After briefly complimenting theVenom: Let There Be Carnageactress’ “fabulous” hair, she explained that the confusion comes as no surprise to her nor her fellow actress.

“Michelle knows what’s going on as well, and I cannot wait to see her, hopefully sooner than later,” the “Lose My Breath” singer said. “It’s being worked out.’

“Let me admit, I do get a lot of other fan mail that is actually addressed to me. This Michelle Williams. I just wanna acknowledge that,” she said before ending the video.

It’s not the first time the ladies have been mistaken for one another, in fact, the issue dates back years.

In a 2019live streamsaved and shared on X, the “Emotion” singer pointed out an easy way to distinguish the two.

“How come when y’all are tagging and congratulating a person, do y’all see that I’m Black?” she asked. “When you go to my profile, you search for the ‘Michelle Williams,’I am Black. Okay? I ain’t mixed with nothing, I ain’t mixed with Persian, Russian, I am Black.”
