A missing college student appears to have been found dead over the weekend in a remote, mountainous area outside Boulder, Colo., authorities said.

Megan Trussell was reported missing on Wednesday, Feb. 12, and was last seen in her dorm on Feb. 9, according to the University of Colorado Boulder.

On Saturday, Feb. 15, both the school police and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said a body matching her description was found in “hard-to-reach terrain” outside the city.

The county coroner will identify the remains and determine the cause of death.

“The decedent was found in hard-to-reach terrain, requiring a technical evacuation including the need to rappel,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

University police had said they were working with local and state authorities in searching for Trussell.

In a message to the school community on Saturday, university officials mourned the suspected discovery of Trussell’s body.

“The loss of a member of our community impacts our campus. Our hearts go out to family, friends and community members of those that we lose,” they continued. “We also have support resources available in the coming days, weeks and months to support community members as they process grief. … Please take care of yourselves and each other.”
