Mom Flies Daughters to Stranger’s Wedding to Find Them Dates Because the Groom ‘Has a Lot of Handsome Jewish Cousins’

In hopes of finding daughters Estée Katz, 27, and Sophia Katz, 30, dates, mother Leala Hewak, 60, snagged them invites to a wedding in Mexico City.

The determined mother had been talking to a stranger via group chat for an art project. Because she’s always on the lookout for potential partners for her daughters, she asked the man if he was single. When she learned that he was getting married in two weeks but “has a lot of handsome Jewish cousins,” she knew she had to take action.

“She’s a very involved mum. She’s forward,” Estée, a part-time social media content creator, told SWNS. “She’s interested in our happiness and finding partners for us one day.”

“She always sends me photos of guys — they are usually not my type but she sent some photos of these guys and I thought they were cute," Estée recalled. “Ten minutes later she called me and said we might be able to go to a wedding.”

Despite their mother’s efforts, Estée and Sophia didn’t find their dream men at the wedding.

“There were some guys I thought were cute but it didn’t happen,” Estée said, noting that the night was still “beautiful,” “happy” and full of dancing.

However, the younger daughter did take away a love lesson from her mother: “If there is an opportunity that comes to you and you’re able to do it, go for it.”

“My mum is very generous and helped us there,” Estée said. “This is a vacation to me — we were going to have fun. It’s a nice opportunity.”

She continued: “We like to just have fun. We like to live life. It’s very spontaneous but it’s a typical story for my mum.”
