New Photos Emerge of 32-Year-Old Woman Missing in Brazil, as Police Say She Traveled to Rio de Janeiro

Police in Brazil have released new information regarding thedisappearance of a British journalist, who went missing in the country on Feb. 8.

The São Paulo Civil Police shared that 32-year-old Charlotte Peet boarded a bus at the Tietê Bus Terminal bound for Rio de Janeiro, according to Brazilian news outletsGlobo,SBT News, andGazeta Brazil.

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro was notified of her movements, according to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), per Globo and SBT News.

“The police investigation is in the final stages of being sent to the Judiciary, with a suggestion that it be forwarded to the authorities in Rio. Additional details are being kept confidential,” said the SSP, per Globo.

The Association of Foreign Press Correspondents based in Rio de Janeiro announced Peet’s disappearance on Tuesday, Feb. 18, ten days after she was last heard from on Feb. 8.

Peet is thought to have last contacted a friend in São Paulo about her plans to travel to Rio de Janeiro,BBC Newsreported. The journalist reportedly told the friend she was looking for a place to stay, but the friend “replied that unfortunately she could not host her.”

The association said family members reached out to the same friend days later “saying they had lost contact with the journalist.” Charlotte’s friend reported her missing on Monday, Feb. 10,The Guardianreported.

Derek Peet, the journalist’s father, toldSky Newsthat his daughter flew to Brazil without informing her family. “I wouldn’t say that it was normal,” he added. Peet was later “traced to Gatwick Airport and was found to have boarded a plane to São Paulo and then the trail went cold,” he added.

“I’m very concerned but I just don’t know what’s going on,” Derek told the outlet, “we’re just trying to pick up the pieces really.”

The British embassy also released a statement saying, “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has been reported as missing in Brazil and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Peet previously worked as a freelancer for Al Jazeera and British news outlets. She spent two years as a freelancer in Rio de Janeiro before returning to London, only to return to Brazil in November, according to Sky News.
