Omarion's 2 Kids: All About the R&B Singer's Son Megaa and Daughter A'mei

WhenOmarionisn’t in the recording studio working on his next single, he enjoys spending time with his son and daughter, Megaa and A’mei.

“When you become a parent, there’s no manuscript,” he toldEbonyin May 2022. “You have to look at your parents and the things that they had or didn’t have and take full responsibility for what you want.”

In May 2021, Omarion opened up to PEOPLE about his father’s absence during significant times of his life. Though they now have a strong relationship — and Omarion has called him “such a good grandpa” — the singer is determined to do things differently with his own kids.

“After you assume the role or position of becoming a father, your ability to think for yourself and think for your kids has to be an unselfish thought,” the singer said in his documentary,OMEGA: The Gift & The Curse, in March 2023. “It was about my kids, it was about them having the opportunity to not just hear about the past glory but take part in the current glory.”

Omarion and Jones welcomed their son Megaa on Aug. 7, 2014.

Just two months after his birth, Omarion toldHipHollywoodthat while he didn’t plan on pressuring his son into any career, he did intend to teach him how to dance. “Dancing will be our thing,” the singer said. “Whether or not he wants to go professional or put an album out, but that is going to be our thing.”

In addition to dance, the “Post to Be” artist has also been including his son in his creative process making music since the boy started talking.

“I play all my new songs fresh from the kitchen,” Omarion toldVicein March 2017. “I ask my son what he thinks, and even though he’s two, if I see him moving, I know.”

He added that because he’s a singer, his kids “definitely have an innate connection to music.”

“Even now, when we play music around the house, I make it a part of their life regimen,” he said.

In 2019, Omarion reunited with his former B2K band members for The Millenium Tour — and Megaa was in one of the sold-out audiences of his shows, even joining him on stage at a performance.

Omarion described the experience toBillboardas “a special moment” for him and Megaa. “I see my son change after that like, ‘Oh, you’re on the road, Dad? Oh, you got shows?’ he said. “My son is only 5, but he understands it.”

Omarion continued, “It’s so cool that I was able to share that moment with him versus ‘Dad, you used to be in a group?’ That was really dope.”

In celebration of Megaa’s 10th birthday in August 2024, Omarion and Jones hosted an NBA-themed party. Omarion posted a sweet tribute to his son onInstagram, sharing a video that featured several images of Megaa throughout the years. “On August 7 my life changed forever,” the singer wrote in the caption. “Being your dad is one of my greatest joys.”

A’mei Grandberry, 9

Omarion and Jones expanded their family in 2016 with the birth of their daughter, A’mei, on March 7.

Omarion is passing on his musical talents to not just his son, but his daughter as well. In February 2024, the singer shared avideoof him teaching A’mei how to play the piano, guiding her on the keys.

A’mei previously declared her father her favorite singer — alongsideBeyoncé. “You!” the little girl told her dad when he asked who her favorite artist was in a September 2023video. “It’s you ‘cause your music is so amazing. When I listen to it, I dance to it, I sing it.”

Outside of music, A’mei enjoys outdoor activities with her family, such as hiking. “When we went up to the top, it was amazing because my brother almost caught a butterfly on his hand,” she said in a vlog of Omarion hiking with his kids onInstagramin January 2024. “We took some pictures, and we had so much fun. I was scared at first, and then I got good at it.”

Whether Megaa or A’mei decide to follow in their dad’s footsteps, Omarion has said his greatest joy is just getting to be their parent.

“A father shows up in a type of way that is protective, that is fair, that is truthful,” Omarion said onInstagramin September 2023. “Those are all of the things I’m beginning to understand and actually enjoy. I didn’t know that before having kids, my children would be a big reflection of who I am and who I am also preparing to be.”
