An Arkansas pastor is facing animal cruelty charges after police allege he drowned two cats, according to multiple news outlets, citing authorities.
Charles Thessing, 63, was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 11, after police received a call from the West Memphis Animal Shelter about Thessing “allegedly committing acts of animal cruelty,” according to astatementfrom the West Memphis Police Department.
Police said they searched Thessings’ home and allegedly found evidence of animal cruelty but did not provide further details about the allegations.

Bishop Anthony B. Taylor called the allegations “disturbing” but noted that Thessing “has many supporters — many whose lives he has positively impacted.”
According to police, Thessing is charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. Jail records show Thessing has since been released on bond, WREG and Fox 13 report.
It’s unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
