The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the wheelchair curling event on Feb. 9, 2025, where they met Ali Harper and PADS Thorin, a 3-year-old black Labrador retriever who supports mental health for first responders in the Yukon through Pacific Assistance Dogs (PADs). The interaction prompted Prince Harry to remember Guy, the beagle that Meghan rescued from a Kentucky kill shelter in 2015 whorecently died.
“Harry came right over and sat down right next to Thorin and kneeled down and started petting him and said how much he misses his dog,” Harper, 43, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “And said thank you very much for what we do with Thorin.”
She adds that Meghan had a “small interaction with Thorin as well, and then we were able to take a group photo.”
