Shortly after Jada’s birth, Barkley said he was “honored and blessed” to have a daughter and to enter fatherhood. “[Always] gotta try to set the standard for her because her image of a man is gonna be off of me,” he added.
“I also thought it would be good to get my degree to set an example for my siblings and my family,” he explained. “I want my kids to be goal setters and whatever they want to accomplish, they can do it if they put their mind to it. I would love for them to one day say, ‘I want to accomplish this’ and actually see it come to fruition.”

As his children matured, Jada and Saquon Jr. could be seen from the sidelines at Barkley’s games. The father of two even has apregame handshake ritualthat he performs with both of them to give him extra luck.
Both his son and daughter have separate handshakes, and while speaking to media, including PEOPLE, during Super Bowl week press conferences, Barkley shared the backstory of how they came up with them.
“Me and my daughter have had a handshake for a very long time,” he shared. “It’s just, when you’re winning games or you’re playing well, cameras are always on you, so that’s where that one comes from.”
“And then I got a new one with my son who’s 2,” he added. “Have you ever seen [Disney’sFinding Nemo], and when [they] do like the fin, noggin, dude? That’s [where our] shake comes from.”
Barkley’s Eagles take on the Chiefs, the reigning Super Bowl champions, on Sunday, Feb. 9.
