Scream 7Director Honors Late Wes Craven as Sequel Begins Filming: He 'Was on My Mind Through It All'

The franchise’s creator raved about his experience on set of the upcoming sequel, sharing his thoughts alongside animage of a film slatemarking “Day One” that he posted on Instagram Tuesday, Jan. 7.

“I’m not supposed to post about Scream and I hope @spyglassmediagr and @paramountpics will forgive me but when you have one of the best days of your life it’s really hard to keep it to yourself,” Williamson, 59, began his caption.

He went on to share that he had “an extraordinary day” of “working with an amazing and talented cast and crew,” who “brought their ‘A’ game and had my back every step of the way.”

Shouting outthe original 1996 film’s director, Williamson concluded, “I’m so very grateful for this opportunity and toWes Cravenwho was on my mind through it all. The profound impact he has had on my life and career is endless. What a day! I can’t wait for tomorrow!”

AfterCraven’s death in 2015, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directed andScream(2022) andScream VI(2023).

Aside from his writer credits on the originalScreamand the sequelsScream 2(1997) andScream 4(2011), Williamson also wrote 1997’sI Know What You Did Last Summer.He made his directorial debut in 1999 withTeaching Mrs. Tingle,and is also known as the creator of the teen drama seriesDawson’s Creek.

Aside from Campbell, 51, Anna Camp, Celeste O’Connor,McKenna Grace, Asa Germann and Sam Rechner have also joined the cast, along withIsabel Mayin the role of Campbell’s onscreen daughter.

Mason Gooding, who previously appeared inScream(2022) andScream VI, isalso set to return.Courteney Coxhas also officially signed on to reprise her veteran role of Gale Weathers, according toVariety.

Scream 7is in theaters Feb. 27, 2026.
