Shirtless Man 'Wielding' Chainsaw Shot Dead After 'Confronting Residents' at Assisted Living Center: Police

On Sunday, Dec. 1 at approximately 8:45 a.m. local time, St. Charles Police Officers responded to a check the welfare call amid reports that a “shirtless male was holding a chainsaw and attempting to cut down a tree” at the River Glen of St. Charles assisted living residence in the city, per a release shared onFacebook.

“Arriving officers attempted to de-escalate the situation; however, the suspect continued his attempts to use the chainsaw against residents of the building, and the officers,” it continued.

Police added that a taser was “deployed on the suspect but his attack continued,” sharing: “An officer was then forced to fire his service weapon, striking the suspect. First aid was immediately rendered; however, the suspect was later pronounced deceased at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital.”

Police confirmed residents and responding officers had been “treated at the scene for minor injuries.”

“We are deeply grateful for the swift action of our team and law enforcement. We want to emphasize that our community is secure, and all residents and staff members are safe,” the post added.
