Sister Wives' Kody Claims He Only Found Out Ex Janelle Was Moving After One of His Kids 'Slipped Up' (Exclusive)

In a PEOPLE exclusive look at Sunday’s all-new episode ofSister Wives, the Brown family patriarch recalls finding out the news that his exJanelle Brownwas moving only because one of his kids accidentally told him.

With a solemn expression on his face, Kody says in a confessional clip: “I don’t know how to explain this. It was never intended for me to know that Janelle was moving.”

He continues, “One of my children, at their admission, slipped up and told me,” and adds that his kid (who he does not name in the clip) asked him, “please don’t repeat that or pretend you never heard it.”

While Kody appears to be distraught over the fact that he wasn’t informed of his ex’s move directly, Janelle says she doesn’t feel any remorse.

“I didn’t tell Kody,” she says in her own confessional. “I didn’t see any reason to tell him. Our lives are not overlapping in any way," she continues, adding that it wasn’t “any of his business what I was doing.”

Earlier in the season,Janelle was scoping out properties in Montanawith her and Kody’s daughterMaddie. At the time, she expressed how she wanted to be closer to her former sister wife,Christine Brown Woolley, and wasn’t concerned about the rest of their now-broken family, includingMeri Brown.

While she didn’t settle in Montana, Janelle noted in a December 2024Instagrampost that she was“finally putting down some permanent roots”with Maddie and her son-in-lawCaleb Brushalongside a video of an empty plot of land.

“I kind of look at Meri still as a friend and I’m sure both of us will mutually get back to that place,” he says. “I hope that Meri and I will just be friends.”

He then moves on to Christine and says he holds no ill will towards her even after she gotremarried in October 2023to her now-husband David Woolley.

“I hear about Christine falling in love and getting married and stuff like this and I’m like, ‘Well, good on Christine,’” Kody says.

Moving on to his last ex, he says, “Janelle was a different story. I always thought … I just felt like Janelle and I could have worked it out.”

Ever since Janelleleft the plural marriagein December 2022, she has not been on the best of terms with Kody — especially when it comes to their shared property at Coyote Pass.

During a Jan. 19 episode ofSister Wives, Janelleconfirmed she hired a lawyerto help her with the possible sale of the Flagstaff, Ariz. land as she didn’t trust Kody to be fair through the process.

“He’s very wishy-washy,” Janelle said of Kody at the time. “He says something, then you don’t hear from him forever. I don’t know … there’s no reassurance that he’s going to be kind.”
