Teyana Taylor Plays Creative Director to Launch Sexy Edit with Victoria's Secret: 'Literally a Dream' (Exclusive)

To sayTeyana Tayloris a fan of Victoria’s Secret would be an understatement.

“I’m a day one fan, a day one customer,” Taylor tells PEOPLE exclusively of her love of the brand.

That’s why her latest business venture — creating an edit with famed lingerie giant — is that much more special than a run-of-the-mill collaboration. Taylor, 34, teamed up with Victoria’s Secret and combed through everything the brand had to offer to pull together theTeyana Taylor Edit, launching online and in stores Feb. 25. It includes everything from sleek slips, corsets and lingerie to swimwear and athletic-wear — everything that Victoria’s Secret does best.

The Edit was born out of a previous collaboration between Taylor and Victoria’s Secret. While doing a cabaret show last year, the brand provided her with some pieces. Afterward, a discussion snowballed of how they could continue to work together, because Taylor just wanted to keep it going.

“It was literally a dream of mine to be able to work with Victoria’s Secret,” Taylor admits. “This is a full-circle moment for me. When I was younger, I just used to shop at Pink — because, of course, I wasn’t old enough to be in a Victoria’s Secret section yet — so the excitement hits different.”

Taylor brought her own style into her edit, leaning into her sexy vibe as well as Victoria’s Secret’s sexy vibe. She wanted the looks she put together to be versatile so that the outfits could go from day to night and the pool to the club.

“I love things that are a one-stop shop,” she says. “I like things that can be two in one, three in one, four in one and I think the looks that I chose are things that I can multitask in, and that’s what I like to do.”

Pieces include theBeachwear Mesh Cut-Out Maxi Dress, theVery Sexy Smooth Lightly Lined Demi Bra, theGeo Daisy Lace Adjustable V-String Pantyand more. They can be mixed and matched and paired with your own fave pieces in your closet.

The “Bare Wit Me” artist can’t pick a favorite look from her edit — narrowing it down to the looks she included was hard enough. She says she started with “30 or 40 pieces.”

“My edit is literally some of my favorite pieces that I chose and chose for the reason that I’m able to do multiple things in them,” she explains. “So I would definitely have to say everything from my edit is equally yoked, equally my favorite.”

Taylor showed her love of Victoria’s Secret at last year’s Fashion Show in New York, the brand’s return to the runway after a six-year hiatus. It was a continuation of her relationship with the brand, which she has fostered over the years. She tells PEOPLE that when she was starting her music career, she “didn’t have the biggest budget to have a full-blown wardrobe” and she turned to Victoria’s Secret, who “saved” her concerts.

“That was always my go-to because that’s all that I could even afford at the time because I was investing in myself and everything was coming out of my pocket,” she says. “I didn’t have a big machine behind me to help with my tours, so I would literally go to Victoria’s Secret, because I have a very sexy show, and they had the little bondage bodysuits.”

She says she would add her own custom touches like rhinestones here and there and she felt “like a million bucks” without breaking the bank. She was also able to dress her dancers this way.

The fact that the brand has continued to care about her and want to work with her means a lot to her, she says. It’s actually her favorite part of creating this edit. Not walking through the archives, not doing the photo shoot, not picking out the clothes.

“My number one favorite part of the process is the genuine love from Victoria’s Secret and just how special they make me feel and just how, like I said, how much of just great partners they’ve been to me because feeling safe is a very, very big thing for me,” she says. “I think a lot of the time now people don’t put the care to it. It’s like, ‘Okay, here’s a check, here’s boom, boom, boom, do this, that and the third.'”

She says the team “believed” in her right off the bat and the project was so much fun the whole time.

“From day one, it was just an automatic equal love and passion for each other.”
