The Big Bang TheorycreatorChuck Lorrerecently revealed a surprise quirk.

While speaking on a panel at the Warner Bros. Television Press Day in Burbank, Calif., on Jan. 30, the writer and producer shared that he has one specific superstition when it comes to his career.

“A long time ago, I picked up a ridiculous neurosis that I have. It’s contagious. It has spread. And for some reason, I cannot sit in a chair with my name on it,” Lorre, 72, told the audience. ”Can’t defend it, but things are working okay, so I’m going to stick with it.”

Lorre’s chair superstition seems to have served him well, as the Emmy winner has created such beloved and long-running shows asDharma & Greg,Two and a Half Men,Mike & MollyandMom.

In another portion of the conversation, Lorre revealed that he approaches his work with a singular goal: to makepeople laugh.

“I think I keep it really simple,” he explained. “My job, my hope and goals are to cause laughter. That’s it. I’m not a teacher. I’m not an educator. And a successful day when you go home is: People laughed. That was a good day. That was a good day. … And that’s the goal. To go beyond that, I think, might be a bit of, a bit of hubris, I believe.”

And in terms of knowing whether or not he’s creating something that will resonate with viewers?

“I think there’s no formula for this other than trust your own response. My own response,” he said.

He continued: “If I think something is worth writing about or characters are really interesting or wonderful or terrible people, but wonderful, terrible people, then trust, trust that feeling. Because there’s no way to canvas the world and find out, ‘Do you agree with me?’ So you just go forward on faith.”
