Clea Shearerhad to undergo an unexpected breast surgery after she was declared cancer-free inNovember 2022.
The professional organizer and star ofGet Organized with the Home Editwasdiagnosed with stage 2 invasive mammary carcinoma, an aggressive form of breast cancer, in March 2022. Due to her diagnosis, she endured months of chemotherapy and radiation and six surgeries, including a double mastectomy and a procedure to remove her ovaries.
However, on Monday, Jan. 27, Shearer, 40, revealed onInstagramthat she had to undergo another procedure, marking her eighth surgery since her diagnosis. She wrote that on Saturday, Jan. 25, her doctor noticed a wound at her incision site that was open to her implant.
“He took one look at it and said, ‘What are you doing on Monday?’ My heart sank because I knew what was coming next. Time for another operation," the mother of two wrote. “And since it had to happen immediately, I wasn’t going to have time to mentally prepare.”
“Back in November, I celebrated what I thought was my final surgery (at least for a long while). Lucky number 7 was going to be it! But two months later, I’m at the hospital about to go in for my 8th," she wrote, adding that “the scary part about today’s surgery is that there’s a good chance it leads to [her] 9th.”
Shearer was told to “emotionally prepare” and that swapping out the implant may not work. “In which case I’ll need a larger reconstruction that uses tissue from my latissimus dorsi muscle in my back,” she wrote.
“But for now, I’m going to focus on getting through this surgery before I worry about needing the next one. The good news is that I’m a pro at this point…I can get into my robe, hair net, and yellow socks in record time. Even John has a routine in the cafeteria,” her caption read.
“We are unfortunately, very good at this. Fingers crossed for a good outcome! 🫶🏼 xo, Clea,” she concluded.

Before Shearer’s surgery, she posted a few Instagram Stories documenting the moments leading up to the operation, including a photo of her 6 a.m. alarm. “Setting my alarm for bam so I can eat a full meal before the 8 hour cut ofi to my surgery tomorrow," she wrote. “The plan is to have a full bowl of ramen and then go back to sleep so I’m not starving all day!”
She then added a selfie in her car, writing, “Heading to the hospital…let’s do this.”
