After the comedian smiled and exclaimed “Cousin! Cousin!”, the two shared a hug and chatted more about their shared lineage.
“Did you know there were wandering Schumers in Nicaragua? How did this happen?” she asked before Schumer replied, “I had no idea but I’m so honored. We have to start hanging out more.”
Navarro joked that she worried their hangouts would “ruin your reputation” but Schumer added that she’d be down to “do it together.”
“But you know what? Maybe because maybe ICE won’t take me if I’m hanging out with a blonde like you,” the television personality quipped.
In an October 2017 episode ofFinding Your Roots, Navarro was shocked to discover new details about her ancestry and her family history in Nicaragua.
“I was surprised to know I have an unbroken DNA thread with Amy Schumer, which also means [Senator] Chuck Schumer,” she said. “I don’t know this is my reputation and his reputation. Oh, Lord!”

Elsewhere, the commentator also found out that one of her ancestors was a slave. Shortly after the episode aired, she sat down withAncestryand opened up about how she felt about her unexpected history.
Navarro continued, “How we look on the outside may not be the entire story. Too often today, we get hung up on labels. You know, whether you’re White, whether you’re Brown, whether you’re Black, whether you’re this, whether you’re that, whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, a conservative, a progressive — don’t get full hung up on these external label because a lot of times, what’s going on internally is much different.”
