Trisha Paytaswasn’t planning to appear onSaturday Night Liveover the weekend — untilBowen Yangunexpectedly reached out.
“On Thursday, [Yang] was like, ‘I wrote a sketch for you, do you want to come onSaturday Night Live?’ I was like, ‘What?'” says Paytas, who’s in the midst of her Trishmas Live Tour and flew from San Diego to New York City later that night. “The next day I was in rehearsals.”
Yang, 34, had previously spoken about his love for Paytas’ online content on hisLas Culturistaspodcast, but she was especially flattered theFire Islandactor thought of her for a sketch. “And now he’s my favorite person in the whole world,” she says.

“I wanted to hide. I was going to be next to Bowen, like, ‘Let me just stand next to you.’ He was like, ‘No, you’re going to go to the front,’ and I was like, ‘Oh my God,'” she recalls. “It felt real. Also, hearing Paul Mescal be like, ‘Thank you Trisha Paytas,’ like, what did I do? That was crazy.”
Paytas was especially excited to meet Spade, 60, of whom she’s been a longtime fan — and he’s well-aware, havingpreviously spoken about her on Whitney Cummings’ podcast.

“He was very nice,” she says. “I was like, ‘Wow, it’s so cool that we got to meet on the SNL stage.’ Because I felt more like I was meeting him as an equal rather than a fan.”
Later that night, Paytas attended the post-show celebration, partook in a few rare glasses of champagne and got to chat with “so many cool people” likeSNLstarKenan Thompsonand comedianZiwe.
“I hadn’t drank since my wedding [toMoses Hacmonin 2021], so it’s a little bit of a blur,” she jokes. “But all of it was fun. I know that!”
Hacmon and their daughters, 2-year-oldMalibu Barbieand Elvis, born in May, unfortunately weren’t able to join their mom for the N.Y.C. trip, as “my little one was sick,” says Paytas. Her husband, however, made sure Malibu got to see the sketch.
“Moses did send me a video. Him and Mal were watchingSNL, and I don’t think she’s obviously grasped it, but she’s like, ‘Mommy!’ And that to me is really cool,” she adds.
