The actor met his wife while both were on vacation in Iceland in 2018. One year after their international meet-cute, the couple announced their engagement and they later married in a private ceremony in 2020.

Daniel starred on the Hallmark seriesWhen Calls the Heartfor five seasons as Jack Thornton, the love interest ofErin Krakow’s character, Elizabeth Thatcher. Much to the disappointment of fans, his characterdied at the end of season 5. However, Daniel credits his departure from the show as one of the factors for meeting his future wife.

“It’s funny the way the world works. If I had stayed on the show, and been there during season 6 and shot and all that kind of stuff, then I wouldn’t have met Nadia, you know?” he toldEntertainment Tonightin February 2020.

Daniel continued, “I wouldn’t be getting married and I wouldn’t be at this place in my life where I feel really in line with what I’m meant to be doing personally and professionally, so no regrets at all.”

They met in Iceland

Daniel and Nadia had a chance meeting while they were both on vacation in Iceland in the summer of 2018.

According tothe actor’s Instagram, he was hanging out with friends in Iceland. Meanwhile, Nadia toldEntertainment Tonightthat she was in the middle of traveling the country after earning her master’s in business when Daniel approached her in a bar.

“I’d never met anyone like him before, that’s for sure!” she told the outlet in October 2019. “There was an instant connection, deeper than anything physical, mental or even explainable.”

Nadia shared that it only grew deeper as their relationship progressed. “The way he makes me feel is as if we’ve always known each other,” she added. “He just gets me at my core and I get him like no one else.”

She didn’t know Daniel was an actor

When the couple crossed paths, Nadia had no clue that her future husband was an actor.

She toldEntertainment Tonightin October 2019 that she wasn’t aware of his career until the “third or fourth” time they got together. However, after hearing about Daniel’s work from viewers, Nadia became one of his biggest supporters.

Nadia also weighed in on his former show,When Calls the Heart,specifically the season 5 episode in which his character married Erin Krakow’s character, Elizabeth Thatcher.

“It was a beautiful episode. Also, it was very emotional because of what Dan was going through that day,” she said. “He lost his grandfather just before they started shooting. We’re taking inspiration from many places. The important thing to us is that we share it with our loved ones.”

They got engaged in 2019

After dating for about one year, Daniel and Nadia announced their engagement in October 2019.

The couple shared the news on social media, with the actorposting a photo on Instagramof him kissing his fiancée with her ring on full display. In the caption, he wrote, “Happy news to share… I get to marry the love of my life.”

Nadiashared a postof her own, featuring a close-up picture of her engagement ring alongside the message, “Couldn’t imagine spending my life with anyone else.”

In October 2019, Daniel opened up toEntertainment Tonightabout their engagement, sharing details about how he popped the question to Nadia.

“I kept it very simple. I asked her at our home. On her birthday. I just spoke from my heart,” he explained. “Although, I’m not sure she heard a word. There was a lot of screaming and crying with happiness. And she was doing the same.”

In the same interview, Nadia revealed that the engagement “was a surprise” and that she was “overwhelmed with happiness.”

When asked how he knew Nadia was the one for him, Daniel replied, “Easy. She is. Simple as that. I think everyone that’s been down this road knows exactly what I mean.”

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting their original wedding plans, Daniel and Nadia married privately in 2020.

In the months after their engagement, Daniel toldEntertainment Tonightin February 2020 that he and Nadia were “just loving life together” and were in the middle of wedding planning.

“Look, Nadia is the boss. I just present her with the options, or she will present me with the options, and we’ll discuss, but final say is Nadia, it’s her special day,” he said. “She’s the princess for her wedding, of course.”

“When you’ve met your ‘one,’ you just want to start your married life together as soon as possible,” he toldEntertainment Tonightin June 2020. “We’re married now and we’re looking forward to everything ahead of us.”

Daniel said that he and Nadia kept things “very simple” for their private nuptials, calling it the couple’s “favorite moment.”

“We’re saving all our personal touches and extravagant decorations for our big family wedding next year,” he added. “Wedding planner and all. It’ll be an awesome wedding, but very different to the first one just for us.”

She loves to travel

In October 2019, Daniel described him and Nadia toEntertainment Tonightas “surf and sand kind of people,” adding that she was adventurous.

Shortly after the couple met in Iceland while they were on their separate vacations, Nadiavisited Australiain December 2018 with Daniel, who is originally from Sydney. The following year, in December 2019, the couple visited several spots, includingTokyoandBali.

For Nadia’s 30th birthday, she and Danielspent time in the Maldivesin September 2022, enjoying an evening on a boat at sunset and a romantic dinner on the beach at night.

They have a dog together

Around the time the couple got married, they brought a new family member into their lives: their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Oscar, who was born in June 2020.

Daniel and Nadia have well-documented their adorable pup on social media, including creatinghis own Instagrampage full of photos and videos.

Oscar has tagged along on several of Daniel and Nadia’s adventures, includinga trip to Las Vegasin April 2021 and anexcursion to Vancouverin February 2024.
