Why Did Zendaya Skip the 2025 Oscars?

The 2025 Oscars were missing just one thing:Zendaya’s presence (and red carpet prowess)!

Zendaya, 28, was one notable absence from the 2025Academy Awardson Sunday, March 2. Thought it’s unclear why the actress did not attend the ceremony, her 2024 movieChallengerswas notablyshut out from competition, not receiving any nominations at this year’s ceremony.Dune: Part Two, which Zendaya also costarred in, did win awards for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects on Sunday, adding to the science fiction franchise’s six awards it won for 2021’sDune: Part Oneat the2022 Oscars.

Representatives for Zendaya did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

On top of that, Universal Pictures announced on Feb. 27 that Zendaya isjoining the voice cast of the currently in production fifthShrekmovie, which will otherwise star Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy as they reprise their iconic voice roles from the fairy tale-inspired animated series. Zendaya will voice Shrek and Fiona’s daughter in the upcoming movie, which will mark the first Shrek entry since 2010’sShrek Forever.

Zendaya and herfiancéTom Hollandare both starring inChristopher Nolan’s next movieThe Odyssey, as well; filming for that movie began in recent weeks, and Universal debutedthe first photofrom from that epic drama on Feb. 17, which revealed that Matt Damon will indeed be portraying the mythical Greek hero Odysseus. Nolan and Universal have not yet revealed who Zendaya and Holland will be portraying in the upcoming film.

Euphoria’s third season does not yet have a specific release date;The Odysseyis expected to land in theaters July 17, 2026, andShrek 5is expected to release Dec. 23, 2026. Zendaya has one additional movie in the works;The Drama, in which she costars with Robert Pattinson.
