Woman Reveals the 1 Thing Her 'Golden Retriever Boyfriend' Does Every Morning (Exclusive)

Ella Swanberg spent almost a year making one very specialvideo.

On her everyday commute to work, she drives past her boyfriend Spencer Canny’s house. And on those mornings, he’s outside waving at her.

Swanberg, 27, tells PEOPLE exclusively that she had saved all the clips in a draft video. It was only this January, afraid that TikTok would be banned, that she finally decided to post the video.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, this might be my last chance,’ ” she remembers.

“We started dating a little over a year ago,” Canny tells PEOPLE. Very shortly after, they shared their locations with each other, and Canny would see her drive from her home in Manhattan Beach to his neighborhood.

“She usually calls me on her way to work, and so we were just talking on the phone and I was like, ‘Oh, this would be a funny little thing if I just go down and wave to her,’ ” he remembers. He used voice isolation on his phone so she couldn’t hear him go outside.

“I was just out there waving and then she had a huge smile on her face and thought it was really funny,” Canny says. “Then the next morning I was on a call and didn’t go down.” Swanberg sent him a photo of his empty driveway and asked, “Oh, no wave this morning?”

From there, Canny, who works from home, started to do it every day. “I literally won’t schedule calls on my calendar until like 9 a.m. because I want to go down,” Canny says of his commitment to the gesture.

Canny says he’s not sure the label fits, but “apparently a lot of people think [so].” “I’m like a happy, bubbly guy,” he adds.

Swanberg’s favorite comment is from a woman who remembered her husband sharing a similar ritual.Bachelorettealum Michelle Youngalso commented and joked, “BRB telling my fiancé he needs to move out so we can do this.”
