Although she doesn’t have kids just yet, one woman said her mom has already made it clear she doesn’t want to be called “grandma” — but there are some issues with her proposed nickname.

In aposton Reddit’s AITA forum, the 29-year-old woman said that she’s been thinking about starting a family, and her mom, 50, indicated that when that day comes, she wanted to be called something “uniquely different” from others: “Honey.”

The woman then explained that “honey” holds special significance to her mother.

“She and her husband call each other honey, and I consider it a romantic pet name,” she wrote, adding that she also thinks it’s “odd as a grandparent name” — and her siblings agree.

The woman said that her husband thinks, “We should just let her choose whatever name she wants, but I cringe every time I think about it and want to come up with something else we all like.”

In an update, the woman said she has a dog, and her mom has already started referring to herself as “honey” whenever she interacts with the canine, saying things like, " ‘Don’t you love when honey comes to visit. You love honey, don’t you?’ "

“I roll my eyes and then the back and forth starts with the name,” the woman wrote. “I’ve made some suggestions like even grandma honey but she is adamant it will only be honey.”

Although many commenters said they didn’t think the woman was in the wrong, others pointed out that there was still plenty of time — and no matter what they “decided” on, kids have a habit of coming up with their own nicknames for people.

“Just say ‘okay’ to honey, and then when your kids can’t say it and call her ‘O-nee,’ roll with it,” one commenter wrote, adding, “This was how someone in my family ended up with the grandma name of ‘NeeNee.’ "
