Woman Stops Letting Sister Borrow Her Car After She Continually Returns It with an Empty Tank, Leading to a Family Feud

A 28-year-old woman is seeking support from the Reddit community after a heated dispute with her sister over borrowing her car.

The story began when she let her older sister Emma borrow her car after hers broke down. “She couldn’t afford to fix it, and since I work from home and don’t use my car every day, I told her she could use it when she needed,” the woman explainsin the post.

While the arrangement seemed okay at first, it quickly became an issue when the poster noticed the vehicle would be returned with a nearly empty gas tank each time. “The first couple of times, I didn’t say anything because I figured maybe she just forgot. After that, I was like ‘Hey, can you make sure you put some gas in the car next time? It’s kind of annoying to always find it empty.’ ”

Emma verbally agreed but still continued to leave the car empty of gas. The situation reached a boiling point when Emma borrowed the car multiple days in a row and returned the car with the fuel light blinking, forcing the woman to make an emergency trip to the gas station.

When confronted about this behavior, Emma responded, “Why should I? It’s not my car.” Her dismissive response led to a heated argument, ultimately leading the poster to revoke her sister’s borrowing privileges.

When she enforced her boundaries, Emma scoffed, saying, “Family is supposed to help each other out. I don’t ask for much, and this is how you treat me?”

Since the incident took place, the two sisters haven’t spoken. Additionally, it left a divide in the family as the mother sides with Emma, citing her current struggles as a reason for leniency. However, their father supports the poster’s decision, viewing the sister’s actions as “disrespectful and entitled.”

While she acknowledges that Emma is upset and she feels bad about how the situation panned out, the original poster notes, “I don’t think I did anything wrong. If the roles were reversed, I’d never treat someone’s car like that.”
